A bit of news to keep you in the know about things happening with Multiples of America. Be sure to check out the quiz at the bottom for your chance to win a gift card!

A Winner!
59 members emailed their answers to the August quiz. A perfect score is not the aim; everyone who joins in the fun is entered into the drawing. The survey looked at multiple celebrations around the globe. Answers to the quiz were:

1. “Twindy 500: Off Two the Races” was held in early August in Twinsburg. It’s billed as the largest annual gathering of twins and multiples in the world.

2. August 24 is Twins Day in this European country, with celebrations including a toy giveaway, music, and an evening dinner. To top it all off, it’s the 40^th anniversary celebration of their national twin organization. The country is Norway.

3. In early July, Multiple Births Sierra Leone organized a National Awareness Raising week. The theme for the year shone a light on a significant health issue facing twins and multiples in their country. The issue is malnutrition.

4. This national organization from Australia just produced a report filled with facts and perspectives, called Multiples Unfiltered. They will meet to celebrate their 50^th birthday in October, which is actually Spring (not summer) in their part of the world.

5. The International Society of Twin Studies is gearing up for its 19^th Congress in September. Researchers from around the world gather at the Congress to present their latest research. This year’s Congress will be held in Italy and is centered around the theme of “Twin Pregnancy: A Global Perspective.”

The board works with our volunteers to deliver current membership benefits as well as to develop new initiatives to support and connect us.

• We’re opening up a Leadership Academy. It’s a learning experience focused on building skills and connections for members serving as leaders on the local, state, or national levels. Academy participants will join in virtual learning experiences, a book study, and discussions and sharing about club management. There’s no fee for Academy participants, but space is limited. Looking for Ways to Stretch the Food Budget?
Our first Zoom Connect for this term promises to provide some “Secrets to Healthy Eating on a Budget for All Ages.” We’ll be meeting with Divya Cardoso, a registered dietitian, blogger, and mom of twins on Wed., Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m. CST. Whether you are an expectant mom, parent with multiples who are picky eaters, or an empty-nester wondering what meal works well for one or two, Divya has some practical solutions and tips you can take to the grocery store. Parental Stress in Families who have Children with Autism
Parenting children who are diagnosed with autism comes with its own list of joys and stresses. Our newest research partner wants to know more. Damion Garcia, under the advisement of Dr. Nancy Segal from California State University, Fullerton, is studying parental stress in families with single and multiple birth children with autism. Mothers and fathers of identical and fraternal twins, where one or both twins are diagnosed with autism are invited to participate, as well as parents of single birth children diagnosed with autism. Parents must be at least 18 years old. Participants take an online survey that takes about 15 or 20 minutes to complete. A Quick Click of What’s Happening with Local Clubs

Plano Area Mothers of Multiples (TX) is all smiles about their fall photo fundraiser. Their photo fundraiser takes place twice a year (fall & spring). The photo fee is split between the photographer and Plano Area MOM so it’s one of the club’s largest fundraisers. 

There are sure to be lots of pictures taken when the Music City Multiples (TN) gather for their fall family party at Walden Pumpkin Farm, complete with hayrides, a corn maze, animal barn, and Tennessee slip and slide.
