FEBRUARY 2025

A bit of news about things happening with Multiples of America.
Check out the quiz at the end for your chance to win a gift card!

A Winner!
50 members emailed their answers to the January quiz. A perfect score is not the aim; everyone who joins in the fun is entered into the drawing. The answers to the January quiz featured a look at some of the sights around Tucson, AZ, the site of our 2025 convention.

In the history gallery of the Mini Time Machine, a museum of miniatures, you can spy a tiny, leather-bound set of the complete works of this famous father of twins. William Shakespeare

See this two-seat, twin-engine reconnaissance plane that could fly from New York to London in less than two hours at the Pima Air and Space Museum. SR-71 Blackbird

The movie, Can’t Buy Me Love, which stars father of twins, Patrick Dempsey, is just one of hundreds of films made in and around Tucson. Take the Old Tucson Historical Tour to find out more about some of these movie productions.

Stand on the front lines of the Cold War at the Titan II Missile Museum. Looking for a twin factor? The launch system for NASA’s Gemini program, which in Latin means “twin,” was derived from the Titan II.

Twins, and sometimes triplets, are common when this desert animal gives birth. Visit the Saguaro National Park or Sabino Canyon for a chance to see Javelina in the wild.

Winner of the gift card drawing was Lisa Gates, Terrific Twosome Mothers of Multiples (CA). Find the February quiz at the end of this email. Just click on the link and you’ll be able to answer quickly and easily on the pre-filled form!

Board News
The board works with our volunteers to deliver the services and benefits you enjoy from year to year and to develop new initiatives focused on support and connection. Here’s a few of our latest moves:

  • The Board of Directors finished up our midterm meetings. We met via Zoom over two evenings in February to review all that’s been accomplished over the first half of the term and to discuss plans for the upcoming months. Be on the lookout for the Spring Mailing, which will come to your email inbox in mid-March, for news about events and services planned for this spring and summer.
  • In search of some added dollars for your club? Fundraisers take organization, coordination, and work. Can they also be fun? Our next Zoom Connect looks at the ins and outs of making money for your club and how to “Put the Fun in Fundraising.” We’ll share ideas and have five superstar clubs on hand to share what’s been working for their bottom line. It’s all happening on Wed., March 12, 7:30 p.m. CST (8:30 EST, 6:30 MST, 5:30 PST). Learn more about the event by checking out the flyer at the end of this message. Register at: https://multiplesofamerica.org/zoom-connects/. Registration closes March 10.

It’s Galentine’s – A Time to Celebrate Friendships
It’s time to celebrate the power of female friendships. No flowers or candy needed! This February, we’re asking you to pay forward the friendships and inspiration you’ve received from other “gals” who are parents of multiples by making a small donation to our Marge Ainsworth Scholarship Fund or endowment (EDGE) funds in their honor. (Check out the flyer at the end of this message for more information about our EDGE.) Click here to donate now.

Toddlers’ Sleep Seminar – Session 3 in the Great Expectations Series
How much sleep do toddlers need during the day? Is bedtime a nightly struggle? When is it time to transition to a big bed? If you’re asking these questions, Great Expectations is for you!

In March we’re hosting the third seminar in our “Great Expectations” series: a Toddlers’ Sleep Seminar. The date is Wed., March 26, 7:30 p.m. CST (8:30 p.m. EST, 6:30 p.m. MST, 5:30 p.m. PST). Smadar Zmirin, a twin specialist, will share guidance on effective settling techniques, helping your toddler develop independent sleep habits, nightmares and night terrors, and more. Space is limited, so register today at: https://multiplesofamerica.org/greatexpectations/

It’s A Balancing Act: Mental Wellbeing for Parents of Multiples
April doesn’t always have to bring showers; this year it will also be a month devoted to bringing sunshine into the lives of families of multiples and raising awareness about the world of multiple parenting. How can that be? April is Multiple Birth Awareness month and this year’s theme focuses on mental wellbeing for parents of multiples. We’re creating a toolkit to help your club in planning and promoting activities, and we’re planning a snapshot social media challenge that’s sure to add sunshine to your day. Look for the toolkit and more details about our Multiple Birth Awareness activities in the Members Only section of the website soon.

Action Alert
A special thanks to clubs who have been sending in their add on members. If you have added members to your club since your initial renewal, let us know so we can add their names and emails to our list. Without that information, those members will not receive the email communications sent to all members, such as Multiple Connections, the Spring mailing, and this monthly “Special Delivery.” Members submitted on or before March 31, 2025, will be included in your credential count for convention voting purposes. We’ve streamlined the process. Find out more at: https://multiplesofamerica.org/add-on/ Questions about that process? Email: info@multiplesofamerica.org

Parental Stress in Families who have Children with Autism
Parenting children who are diagnosed with autism comes with its own list of joys and stresses. Our newest research partner wants to know more. Damion Garcia, under the advisement of Dr. Nancy Segal from California State University, Fullerton, is studying parental stress in families with single and multiple birth children with autism. Mothers and fathers of identical and fraternal twins, where one or both twins are diagnosed with autism are invited to participate, as well as parents of single birth children diagnosed with autism. Parents must be at least 18 years old. Participants take an online survey that takes about 15 or 20 minutes to complete. Read more the survey at: https://multiplesofamerica.org/parentalstress_research/ or access the survey link at: https://fullerton.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aXZT7g7qisDwyCW

In Need of a Gift Card?
We’ve started a new ongoing fundraiser through Raise Right. The fundraiser offers you a chance to support Multiples of America by purchasing gift cards from favorite retailers. A percentage of each purchase is donated back to our organization at no added cost to you. Check out an article in August Club Connections (now called Club Helpline) to find out more, or visit the website at: https://www.raiseright.com/. The special code to use for Multiples of America is: RK3FS3ZNGYVS

Can You Be Our Ambassador?
Our Ambassador Program is a way for members to give back to the organization without making the year-long commitment of being a National Worker volunteer. As they say, “it takes a village” to build all of the connections we provide for members and member clubs and it’s not to late to jump in and help! As an added perk, all Ambassadors who complete four tasks are eligible to be entered into a drawing for one-half of the cost of a complimentary registration to the 2025 annual convention. Find out how you can join in:  https://multiplesofamerica.org/ambassador/

Cupcakes and Safety Tips with our Local Clubs

Permian Basin Mothers of Multiples (TX) held a family Valentine Party. They played at “We Rock the Spectrum,” ate cupcakes, and had a Valentine exchange.

Fairfax County Mothers of Multiples (VA) learned self-defense techniques from the experts when they gathered together in February. The program followed up their January Barre class, led by one of their triplet moms, and is a part of their year of MOM self-care.
